I Have a Confession..

I Have a Confession..

Hey there,

I have a confession to make.

My Confession: I’ve been avoiding it!

You’re probably thinking, “What is this man talking about?”

Let me explain.

For almost all of my adult life I’ve been avoiding the very shift I needed to move in the direction of my destiny.

Why would I avoid that very thing I was created for, you ask?

Great question!

I avoided it for the same reason that most people avoid things: Because of Fear.

Fear of the unknown.

Fear of failure.

Fear of the opinions of others.

Fear.

Fear.

Fear.

Is this resonating with you so far?

If so, I’d like to share the two decisions I made to overcome my fears and finally say yes to changing my life:

1. I decided to trust God.

First, God is a good father.

Next, He left us his Word that never fails.

He can’t lie.

And, He is very clear about His desires for our experience here on Earth.

So why was I so worried about all these insignificant things?

Scripture states it this way:

For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. [2 Timothy 1:7 KJV]

I decided to believe that God did not give me fear, so I would never hold on so tightly to something He never gave me.

2. I decided to prioritize legacy.

Do you want to be known as the husband / father / grandfather / great grandfather / friend / etc. that was afraid to try?

This was the simple question that shifted my focus from my comfort to the comfort of my future generations.

I decided that I did not want to be known as a man who didn’t try.

Who didn’t do hard things.

Who was so afraid of failure that he never actually allowed himself to experience real success.

Just imagine that conversation: “Grandpa Phillip was the one who had all this potential but was too afraid to even try.”

Nope!

Not gone talk about me like that.

Not on my watch.

Ultimately that pep talk led me to where I am today: running after purpose instead of running away from it.

I sincerely desire the same shift for you.

It’s time to stop avoiding it.

In parting, I leave you with two questions to consider in your own life and circumstances:

  1. What Have You Been Avoiding?
  2. What Do You Want to be Known For?

Let me know in the comments below!

I’d love to hear from you.

Talk Soon,

Phillip G.
